The National Institute of Design (NID) Vijayawada, founded in 2015, is a public autonomous institution under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. It's recognized as an Institute of National Importance, akin to IITs and IIMs, and plays a vital role in advancing design education and thinking in the country. Known as NID Andhra Pradesh, it is the second multi-disciplinary design institute under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). This institute was the first NID established following the National Design Policy, right after NID Ahmedabad. In 2025, NID Vijayawada was ranked 5th among India's top 30 colleges by IIRF. NID Vijayawada offers a flagship undergraduate program in design, the B.Des. To enroll, candidates need to clear the 10+2 from a recognized board and succeed in the NID DAT (Design Aptitude Test). The first-year fee for the B.Des program was reported at INR 2.11 lakhs for 2025, while the fee for 2026 is pending. The campus currently operates from Acharya Nagarjuna University but is planning a new 50-acre site at Amaravati. The placement statistics for 2025 are yet to be disclosed, but previous reports show that many students secured positions in prestigious companies like Myntra, Yahoo, Google, and Samsung, reflecting the strong placement services at the institute.
