About

IIM Calcutta, founded in 1961, is the first national institution dedicated to postgraduate studies and research in management. It is a favorite among finance sector recruiters. Internationally, the institute is ranked 61st by the Financial Times and holds the 2nd position in Collegedunia's 2025 ranking among management schools in India. The flagship course at IIM Calcutta is the MBA, followed by the Executive MBA. Admission to these programs requires scores from CAT or GMAT, along with a Written Ability Test and a Personal Interview. The institute also evaluates academic records, gender diversity, and work experience during the admission process. For CAT, applicants need to achieve at least an 85 percentile overall, with a minimum of 75 percentile in the Quantitative Ability section and 80 percentile in the VARC & LRDI sections to move forward in the selection stages. The acceptance rate for the MBA program for general category applicants is 45.76%, meaning that this percentage of candidates who receive an interview call get a final admission offer, according to rgcareerconsultants.com. In the 2025 placement season, IIM Calcutta saw 456 students hired by 196 companies. The top domestic package was INR 145 LPA, while the highest international offer was INR 91.45 LPA. Consulting firms hired 37.3% of the batch, with another 21.2% joining the finance sector. Major recruiters included McKinsey, Bain, BCG, Accenture, KPMG, Deloitte, Claypond Capital, and Standard Chartered.
