National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad stands as a leading institution in India's design education and research sector. Founded in 1961 as an autonomous body, it holds the status of an Institution of National Importance conferred by the Government of India. Acclaimed by both the UGC and AICTE, NID Ahmedabad is affiliated with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). It ranks first in design education according to IIRF and Collegedunia, and is acknowledged as a Scientific and Industrial Design Research Organisation by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India. The institute offers B.Des, M.Des, and Ph.D. programs across approximately 20 design domains. The B.Des program is NID Ahmedabad's flagship course. Entry to B.Des is determined by the scores in the NID Design Aptitude Test (NID DAT), which consists of Prelims and Mains. The fee for the B.Des program is INR 4.22 Lakhs for the full four-year course. In 2024, the general category cutoff for NID DAT was between 50.1 and 66 marks. Although the Placement Report for 2025 has yet to be published, the 2023 placements revealed a highest package of INR 30 LPA and a lowest of INR 4 LPA. Top recruiters included firms like Nykaa E-Retail, HCL Technologies, and Shell India Markets Pvt. Ltd. NID Ahmedabad was established in 1961 and is located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. It offers a seat intake of 128 for B.Des and 126 for M.Des, with entrance exams such as NID DAT for B.Des and M.Des, and NID DRT for Ph.D. The highest placement package recorded in 2023 was INR 30 LPA.
