IIT Roorkee is a prestigious autonomous technical and research university that was founded in 1847, originally known as Thomason College of Civil Engineering. It holds the distinction of being Asia's oldest technical university. According to the NIRF 2024 rankings, IIT Roorkee achieved the top spot in the Architecture & Planning category, while also securing the 8th position overall and 6th in the Engineering category. The highest package offered was INR 2.05 crore per annum from Databricks, a US-based software company. The median package for the B.Tech program stood at INR 19.69 lakh per annum. Top recruiters included major companies like Accenture Japan, American Express, Google, Microsoft, and Reliance Industries, among others. IIT Roorkee continues to be a sought-after institution for its historical significance and strong placement records, making it an appealing choice for engineering and technology aspirants in India.
