The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences, commonly known as NIMHANS, is an autonomous institution established in 1974 in Bangalore, Karnataka. As of 2024, it ranks 4th in the medical category by IIRF and 7th by Collegedunia in 2025. In 2012, NIMHANS was recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India, and it was also granted the status of 'Deemed University' by the UGC in 1994. The institute provides diverse courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels in mental health, nursing, and neurosciences. The Ph.D. program is considered the flagship course of the institute, offering 25 different specializations. Admission to these Ph.D. programs is through an entrance exam conducted by NIMHANS itself, with first-year tuition set at INR 32,000. Among undergraduate courses, the B.Sc. program is particularly popular, with a total tuition cost of INR 30,000. While the placement report for 2025 is not yet available, the NIRF report from 2023 indicates that the median package for a 2-year PG program was INR 6 LPA, while for a 3-year PG program, it was INR 16.09 LPA.
